Vacuum tables are used in many commercial and industrial processes to hold down a wide variety of items during additional processes. The type of vacuum pump you choose for your table depends upon many factors, including the type of part or substrate, and several other considerations. It is helpful to have an understanding of the technology behind the force in vacuum tables when choosing the right type of vacuum pump.
Many people think that an increased horsepower in vacuum force is better, no matter what. An increase in horsepower will not necessarily yield a better process, but it will increase your electric bill for sure. The question is, just how much vacuum force do you need for your process? One important consideration when designing your vacuum system is the surface area of your part and the table. Large parts such as sheets of aluminum or metal would not require as much vacuum as smaller or odd shaped parts. Small parts require stronger vacuum force to securely hold your part in place. The contact surface area between the vacuum holes and the object is a key consideration. The friction between your vacuum table surface and the substrate is of important consideration when choosing the proper vacuum pump. A slippery table surface will allow your part or substrate to move regardless of the vacuum force, whereas a non-slippery surface should hold your part firmly in place with adequate vacuum force applied. Air permeability of your object is another very important factor that directly affects the amount of vacuum force needed. Canvas or paper products with greater air permeability will require more vacuum force than a sheet of metal. Vacuum tables provide a very important function in many industrial processes, holding substrates in place for precision work in critical applications. When you need a vacuum table that you can rely on, you need superior flatness with powerful holding force, and the proper vacuum pump and valve for your application.
Regenerative Vacuum Pump The Regenerative Vacuum Pump by Systematic Automation provides good holding power, but not quite as strong as the rotary vane pump. This Regenerative Pump is often used during processes such as light CNC machining, photography, printing, and engraving and is not quite as strong of a vacuum hold as the Rotary Vane vacuum pump. Vacuum Valves Vacuum valves exhausts the vacuum force in the table when in the off position. Systematic Automation provides various vacuum valves depending on your process. The standard vacuum valve is an on/off type fit for 1 3/8” inside diameter vacuum hose, requiring at least 80 PSI of compressed air to operate. The Vacuum Valve with Blowback diverts the exhaust pressure from the pump as air. Air flow is easily adjusted in flow rate and force by using an adjustment lever on located on the valve. This valve is also 1 3/8” in hose diameter. The Adjustable Vacuum Force Intake Valve actually controls the amount of air allowed to enter the vacuum table. Systematic Automation offers all of these vacuum valves with a Foot Pedal for activation. Systematic Automation has been manufacturing high performing vacuum chuck systems for more than thirty years. We design, engineer, manufacture and install superior vacuum systems for virtually any application. Systematic Automation set the industry standard with maximum flatness in our vacuum chuck systems of +/-.001” per linear foot. Our tables are available in a wide variety of sizes to accommodate virtually any vacuum table application. Contact us today to learn more about our proven solutions with vacuum tables. Systematic Automation manufactures a wide selection of CNC Vacuum tables with enhanced models in several shapes and sizes. Our tables are used around the globe for many precise applications including machining of steel, PVC, plexiglass or many other possible substrates. With more than three decades of experience, our designers and engineers can help to match the perfect vacuum table to your process, ensuring the maximum vacuum force for your application.
Vacuum Table Pumps We offer two types of pumps, each with coolant separators and capabilities to provide maximum vacuum force to hold your substrate firmly in place during precise processes, even in highly pressurized situations. Diaphragm pumps provide a very tight seal for your product and the table by using low vacuum flow pumps with high vacuum force. A small leak in a diaphragm pump would result in a reduction of vacuum force. Our Rotary Vane vacuum pumps are also referred to as High Flow pumps allow minimal leakage without compromising vacuum force. Rotary vane pumps use less vacuum force than diaphragm pumps. Sacrificial sub-plates are also available with corresponding vacuum holes when machining through your product. Systematic Automation will help to design the perfect system for your process, determine the right style of pump for your needs with optimum port location. There are many instances in which a heated vacuum table would be beneficial, or even necessary. A vacuum table that provides consistent heating in one process may be beneficial for applications that involve curing composite components or debulking for compaction and removal of any trapped air.
Heated vacuum tables can also be used to manufacture thin layers of film or lacquer. Combining heat with precision flatness of +/- .001”, your vacuum table will provide superior performance for foils, panels or several other flat surfaces. Heated vacuum chuck systems with simple temperature controls and even distribution of heat give manufacturers control over their process with user friendly adjustable processes. Systematic Automation Manufactures Heated Vacuum Tables Systematic Automation manufactured one of the very first heated vacuum tables, with uniform heat distribution and vacuum suction with adjustable analog heat controls reaching temperatures over 500° F. All of our vacuum tables provide superior flatness at +/- .001” flatness, Inline adjustable vacuum gates provide adjustable vacuum suction in addition to adjustable heat controls. Systematic Automation manufactures vacuum tables in a wide variety of standard sizes with custom sizes available. Auxiliary equipment and options such as bases, modular clamping systems, and vacuum pumps can also be custom designed to your specifications. High Performance Vacuum Table Design Systematic Automation manufactures our heated vacuum tables with high temperature epoxy construction, and an aluminum core. Heating elements are strategically placed in between rows for minimal obstruction of air flow. Applications for Heated Vacuum Tables • Vacuum Curing and Debulking • Solar Energy Systems • Catalyst Coated Membranes for fuel and battery cell electrode assembly • Thin Film Applicator • Fast drying and curing of specialty inks • De-wrinkling in industrial applications • Bonding and infusion of fabrics Our vast resources and in-depth knowledge of automated vacuum chuck systems allow us to provide state-of-the-art equipment with cost efficient solutions for a multitude of industrial applications. Contact us today for a FREE consultation on the perfect vacuum system for your process. Automated cutting systems typically use vacuum tables when cutting most types of fabric to hold the fabric firmly in place for accurate cutting. Plotting and cutting systems use heavy duty vacuum pumps to ensure that your desired cut is what you get, with consistent accuracy. Vacuum pumps can be designed to work in separate zones when required, activating specific areas of the table with vacuum pressure.
Some fabrics may need a sacrificial layer to help hold the fabric while cutting, then discarded after the cutting is complete. These layers may consist of polypropylene, PVC, Porex or a high-density polyethylene (HDPE). This sacrificial layer is designed with your table to not reduce any suction. Most plotter and cutter systems will have a rotary blade that is 28mm in diameter to easily cut fabric without pushing it downward. This allows for the blade to have minimal contact with the vacuum table, which can extend the life of the sacrificial layer. For a sturdy material, you may need carbide blades to cut through something like carbon fiber. Typically, plotter cutter systems are used for cutting canvas in industries manufacturing large pieces of cut fabrics such as boat sails and require only the standard blade. Systematic Automation Provides Superior Vacuum Cutting Systems Systematic Automation is a world leading manufacturer of vacuum chuck systems in any size imaginable with distinct types of pumps to accommodate your unique process. Our vacuum chuck systems are custom designed to fit your plotting and cutting system, with sizes from 5’ x 6’ all the way up to 72’ x 144’. Tables greater in size the 48’ x 48’ will require additional support beyond the standard 4 points to maintain precision within +/- .001”. We manufacture vacuum tables within +/-.001” flatness per linear foot for accuracy, setting the standard for precision flatness in the vacuum table industry.
